If you live in the tropics then you surely know this fruit – passion fruit. There are many different varieties. This smoothie is made with the sweet variety, also known as Jamaican lilikoi. It has soft, fuzzy, orange skin. This is unlike the smooth, glossy exterior of the very sour yellow and purple varieties of lilikoi. If you’re planning on visiting the tropics be sure to keep an eye out for this incredibly delicious fruit!
Raw (Sweet) Passion Smoothie
For this simple smoothie, I blended:
- 8 passionfruit
- 1 medium papaya
- 1-2 bananas
- a squeeze of lemon
Like all fresh, ripe, raw, organic fruits, this smoothie is loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, water and soluble fibre. The high Vitamin C levels makes it an excellent immune boosting smoothie and the superb blend of flavors makes it an idea way to wake up in the morning!
So many people have become afraid of eating fruit, one of the greatest misconceptions about the nutrition of our time (along with the ongoing protein debates). But the truth is, every single cell in our bodies are run on simple sugars. We’ve been misled to believe that it’s the sugars that causing the problems of candida, diabetes and cancer, but in reality, it’s only sugar in the presence of a high fat diet that causes all those health related problems. Since I transitioned to a low-fat, raw vegan diet, my life changed dramatically for the better: I lost the excess weight, I improved my skin, I improved my ability to focus and concentrate…and that’s just to name a few of the many benefits I’ve received from following this lifestyle.
